The Drumheller & District Literacy Project is dedicated to promoting literacy skills development within Drumheller and our surrounding communities. The project provides trained volunteer tutors to work individually with adults who wish to improve their reading, writing and/or basic mathematical skills, or learn English as a Second Language. Each student is a class of one, working at their own speed on projects of their choice. No pressure, no exams, no fees. All services are free and confidential.
Volunteer tutors are the ‘heart’ of the program. Literacy Coordinator Fay Holt Begg trains tutors in a variety of tutoring techniques, and specializes in teaching students with learning disabilities. Tutors and students have access to an extensive collection of literacy resources through the literacy office and the Drumheller Public Library.
The Drumheller Literacy Project is one of over 70 Volunteer Tutor Adult Literacy Programs in Alberta funded by Alberta Advanced Education, Community Programs Branch. Administered by the Drumheller & District Further Education Council in partnership with the Drumheller Public Library, we have been helping Albertans improve their literacy skills for over 25 years.
Volunteer tutors are always needed and anyone who loves to read and can give two hours a week can help.
We are located at 245 3 Street West,
Box 998,
